Dietze and Davis, P.C. Celebrates Star Waring, Shareholder and Attorney, as the 2022 Recipient of the Sonny Flowers Award of Merit

This week, we celebrate Star Waring who has been named the Boulder County Bar Association’s (“BCBA’s”) 2022 Sonny Flowers Award of Merit Recipient.

The Sonny Flowers Award of Merit is the highest honor given to a member of the Boulder Bar.  It recognizes the recipient’s substantial dedication to the legal process and for being an “unsung hero” whose contributions may have gone unnoticed but who, nonetheless, personifies the “very best” in the legal profession.

Star, who has been a Shareholder with Dietze and Davis, P.C. since the early 2000s, is being honored this week by the BCBA, in part, for being a trailblazer for women practicing law across Colorado, especially in the water law sector.  Star began her career as an water law attorney in the late 1970’s and early 1980s, enduring condescension and sniping but, by doing so, paving the way for other women to enter the novel space.  Star, who has an AV (the highest) rating from Martindale Hubbell Law Directory and has been named as a “Best Lawyer” by Denver's 5280 Magazine, is also being recognized by the BCBA for her work representing individual farmers and groups of agricultural water users, developers, lenders, municipalities, and ditch companies in matters involving water issues, both at the state and federal levels, but also in tribal courts across the Western United States, as well.

Star’s experience testifying before the Colorado legislature on pending water law legislation, representing well owners in virtually every type of matter involving groundwater issues, publishing and presenting nationally on a variety of topics related to water law, and serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law are just a few noteworthy accomplishments for which she is being celebrated this week.  Beyond her water law achievements, Star is also being honored for her work representing minors in confidential hearings in Colorado’s district courts, and for her work in the local community as well.  Star has served as the President of the BCBA, on the Board of the BCBA Foundation, and has participated across many areas in the local non-profit sector (Star currently chairs the Board of the Colorado Chautauqua Association).

With a lifetime of service, a career impeccable, and a woman of tremendous ability and skilled advocacy, Star is a most deserving recipient of the Sonny Flowers’ Award of Merit.  Congratulations Star!
